On January 23, 2024, the Department of Tourism (DOT) Bhutan announced an exciting initiative aimed at supporting the MICE sector. Organizers of MICE events are now eligible to apply for a Waiver of Bhutan’s daily Sustainable Development Fee (SDF), a crucial step to boost tourism revenue.
Minimum Participants
Seven or more participants, excluding organizers, speakers, or hosts.
Event Duration
The waiver applies for up to four nights per event (excluding travel days).
Organizer Certification
Events must be organized by a DOT-certified Bhutanese Tour Operator
Exclusions
Partners, children, and friends do not qualify for the SDF waiver.
Available Year-Round
There are no blackout dates for eligible MICE events.
Reporting Requirement
A detailed report, including outcomes and photographs, must be submitted to the DOT within a month post-event.
